Magic Ears is an online English teaching platform, aimed at children 3-14 years of age. Magic Ears was founded in 2016 and has been rapidly growing. Magic Ears strives to provide fun, interactive, and efficient online English learning experiences to children in China. All teachers working with Magic Ears are native English-Speakers from the United States or Canada. The online classes are 4 students to 1 teacher, which make online learning much more accessible to students. Magic Ears promotes a family environment allowing the teacher's to have a community with daily support. Magic Ears also provides secondary positions in addition to teaching, which allows this company to provide full-time, part-time, or supplemental income. Magic Ears provides all teachers with training and resources to make each teacher prepared, and always growing to become the best they can be.

The class style differs from most online ESL companies and for this reason is a much more affordable option to students. The classroom boasts a very interactive platform that allows a 4 student to 1 teacher classroom; it is both group learning and one on one. The classes are 25 minutes long, are exciting, fun, and very energetic to maintain a lively atmosphere while learning English. The curriculum is provided and located on the extremely interactive platform that includes: videos, songs, games, and many other moving parts.

Magic Ears classes are referenced in Beijing Time (BJT). For many US/Canadian's this time differs quite a bit. This is the time sheet of available hours (in BJT). The peak time slots are when Magic Ears is typically the busiest and need the most teachers. The regular slots are the other options for bookings. The special slots are only opened when students are out of school and are more common during summer.

Are there a minimum/maximum amount of hours I must work?  --- Absolutely not, Magic Ears wants you to work the hours and days that you are most comfortable with.

How do bookings work? --- Your students will vary from class to class. All teachers will be randomly assigned to the students. The students‘ names will be displayed on the platform for teachers’ reference.

Parents do not book teachers, instead, they can simply book the class, and then the Magic Ears system assigns them to an available teacher. The amount of bookings each teacher gets is based on the amount of students who have booked classes and the ranking of the teacher.

Magic Ears offers pay that exceeds most online ESL companies. As an independent contractor, your payment is calculated on a per-class basis (25-minute class + 5-minute student evaluation) and is composed of a minimum pay plus incentives. Magic Ears teacher's sign a 6 month contract with the company.

To get a higher base pay you must have: 5+ years teaching experience, bachelors in education, and the TESOL/TEFL Certification. 

During contract renewal, teacher's are up for an assessment of their performance and possible raise.

How much tax do I have to pay? ---- Magic Ears’ teachers function as independent contractors and are responsible for their own taxes in accordance with their individual tax jurisdictions as well as state and federal laws.

​

When and how will I be paid? --- The monthly compensation shall be paid on the 10th working day of the next calendar month. Teachers can be paid through online bank transfer or PayPal. Magic Ears assumes the transfer fee charged by the remitting bank, and teachers assume the handling fees charged by the receiving bank. PayPal does not have charges!

Magic Ears doesn't just offer teachers the option to teach Chinese Children, but they also open secondary positions to experienced teachers. Once a teacher reaches the rank of Senior Teacher, with 200 classes taught, they are eligible for a secondary position.

 

Secondary positions include: Social Media, Proofreading, Interviewing, Training, and Mentor/Referrer
